Is My Pregnancy Causing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Is My Pregnancy Causing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Answer: If you did not have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome before you were pregnant then there is a fair chance that your CTS is being caused by your pregnancy.

Pregnant women swell up in more places than just the belly. If you are pregnant you are probably noticing that you are swelling everywhere. Pregnancy causes inflammation, fluid retention and swelling in general. Swelling in the Carpal Tunnel, whether caused by repetitive stress, injury or pregnancy, can cause enough pressure on the median nerve to result in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
