Question: Are My Ergonomic Items Tax Deductible?
Answer: Probably not. Certain medical expenditures, known as capital expenses, are tax deductible. Unfortunately, that new ergonomic keyboard typically is not (unless it is a business expense).
There are ways to take some ergonomic medical tax deductions, however. The IRS says: "You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay for special equipment installed in a home, or for improvements, if their main purpose is medical care for you, your spouse, or your dependent." Some ergonomic improvements, especially for handicap or special needs people, may be deductible.
