Does Intensive Reading Cause Nearsightedness?

By Chris Adams, About.com

Question: Does Intensive Reading Cause Nearsightedness?

Answer: Much like the misbelief that computer use causes nearsightedness, heavy reading does not typically cause this vision problem. Some evidence suggests that intensive reading or other up-close activities performed by young adults can lead to nearsightedness. More often the case, however, is that intensive reading causes you to notice that your vision could use some correction.
