The Techno Modifier
Profile of a Child Book Bag User - The Techno Modifier

By Chris Adams, About.com

The Techno child carries a ton of technology. From laptops to cellphones to portable music players, electronic gadgets appear faster than saying "Go, go gadget iPod." Both the value and the fragile nature of these items requires extra protection in any bag that carries them.

Special Ergonomic Considerations

  • Padding, padding and more padding - special padded compartments for laptops, cell phones, pda's and digital music players will help protect against banging and dropping.
  • Quick access - access to gizmos should be easy.
  • Cord management - pass through holes and cord straps for headphones and headsets keeps things from getting tangled.
  • Lock-ability - locking a backpack will probably not deter the determined thief, but it will impede the pick pocket or situational stealer.
Best Book Bag for Your Child

A quick Task Analysis can help determine what techno gadgets your child will carry in their bag and which of those they need quick access too. Then you can choose a bag that will accommodate those items.

Several specialized laptop backpacks are available and cover a number of sizes and specific needs. Other multi-purpose bags have features for cellphones, pda's, mp3 players and CD players. Many non-techno bags can provide adequate protection and access as well.
