The Pixie Modifier
Profile of a Child Book Bag User - The Pixie Modifier

By Chris Adams, About.com

The Pixie child is petite, small, tiny, miniscule, use wahtever term you like. The point is they sit at the lowest end of the sizing charts. Their size will be hard to fit no matter what you do.

Special Ergonomic Considerations

  • Size - the pixie is the smallest of the small, sitting at or below the 5% anthropometric mark. Finding the right size will always be difficult, but is even more important than with larger children.
  • Weight - most pixies are light as well as small. Some are so light that the weight of the bag itself can make up a signifiicant portion of the maximum weight for the child's backpack.
  • Cool Factor - small children tend to get picked on enough as it is. Their backpack should not make things worse. If they get picked on for their pack they will be less likely to wear it. If it is not worn it is not useful.
