Breakdown: Human-Machine Interfaces

The Egg-Perfect Egg Timer has one human-machine interface: the color changing disc.

The disc is a bright orange-red that darkens considerably when heated. Printed on top of the disc is a graduated scale that shows when the eggs have reached the soft, medium or hard boiled stages. As the disc is heated, the bright orange-red area shrinks and the edge passes through the graduated scale.

Ergonomic Breakdown: Comfort Factors

The Egg-Perfect Egg Timer has one comfort factor: reassurance.

There is no guess work here. What you see is what you get. That gives the cook all the reassurance they could need to know the eggs will come out exactly how they want them to.

Ergonomic Breakdown: Efficiency Factors

The Egg-Perfect Egg Timer increases efficiency by simplifying the cooking of boiled eggs. No calculations are needed to determine cooking time or temperature. No "done-ness" checks are needed to verify how well the egg is cooked. All you have to do is look at the egg timer and take the eggs out at the correct time.

I would suggest moving them to an ice water bath to halt the cooking. Otherwise the residual heat will continue to cook the eggs.

Use, Misuse & Unknowns

The Egg-Perfect Egg Timer is a durable, heat resistant chunk of plastic. It can take multiple boiling without degrading its performance.

It should not be exposed to direct heat so make sure there is water in the pot. Also keep it out of the dishwasher. A quick hand washing is all that is needed (if that).

Avoid flash cooling it as well.

The Egg-Perfect is made of soft plastic that can easily be cut. So don’t confuse it for an egg when making egg salad. The skin is thick and the minor scrapes, dings and cuts will not affect its performance.
