Ergonomic Breakdown: Human-Machine Interfaces

The Discovery 665 Bluetooth headset has three main human-machine interfaces: the earpiece, the microphone and the buttons. Secondary communication is provided through colored lights.

The earpiece is the main physical interface, since that is what you will be touching 95% of the time you use the Discovery headset. With three earpiece sizes to choose from, you are sure to get a comfortable and positive fit. An ear loop is provided if you need more stability, but the earpiece itself should be enough to secure the headset to your head.

The microphone registers automatically and does not require any finicky adjustment. The microphone picks up your voice very well, and the noise cancellation keeps background noise out of reception.

Three buttons operate the Discovery 665. Two volume buttons raise and lower the volume and, when pressed together, mute the sound. A third button turns the headset on/off and answers/hangs up calls. When in doubt, just hold the button longer and wait for a flash of light or a beep.

Comfort Factors

The Discovery 665 has one major comfort factor -- the ear piece. A comfortable ear piece needs to have a good shape, be made of supple material and fit correctly. The Discovery 665 earpiece does all three. If it hurts when you wear it, try a different size.

Efficiency Factors

The Discovery 665 Bluetooth headset provides for efficient hands-free communication.

A single button press answers or ends calls. An additional feature automatically answers calls when the Discovery headset is removed from the charging cradle. So if you leave your headset in the cradle (at your desk or in your car), it will pick up the call the moment you pull it out of the cradle.

Use, Misuse & Unknowns

The Discovery 665 Bluetooth headset has performed in every adverse circumstance it has been placed in. It works in noisy and windy environments. Talk time last for hours. It even stands up to a beating in a pocket or bag.

I haven’t tried it under water yet. Anyone want to give that a go?
