Does an anti-fatigue mat really help that much? Are they worth the time, money and hassle?
Standing still is harder on your body than almost anything else. The body is designed to move and be dynamic, not sit there with a static load pressing down on your joints and crushing your blood vessels flat. That causes a lot of strain and fatigue on the body and creates pressure points which are really uncomfortable. An anti-fatigue mat reduces all of that.
Walking on hard surfaces is almost as bad as standing on them. Spend a day walking on concrete and you will have a soar back and an aching throb in your lower legs. Spend a few years doing that and you can have chronic pain, varicose veins and back problems. Anti-fatigue mats go a long way to fighting those effects.
Even a cheap anti-fatigue mat is most likely worth it when compared to standing on bare tile or concrete or any other hard surface. But to make most of the benefits of an anti-fatigue mat you need to make sure the material, style and size is right for your application. While a kitchen mat can work in the garage, it might not be the best solution.
