Tanning Bed Ergonomics
Wednesday March 19, 2008
I'm not a big visitor of the tanning beds, but if you are you probably want the most ergonomic, that is comfortable and productive, tanning session possible. Turns out that their is a standing tanning bed that does just that. If you're interested check out the Stand Up Tanning Beds vs Traditional Tanning Beds debate.

The whole idea of going to a tanning bed in the first place seems fundamentally “unergonomic” to me based on the health risks associated with tanning.
I am not here to judge the morality of your actions, just to make them as comfortable, efficient and productive as possible.
It’s not a morality issue, it’s a health issue.
Granted that the overuse of a tanning bed can be an unhealthy activity, tanning in itself is not. Nor does ergonomics deal with the health of that type of activity. I don’t think skin cancer is classified as a repetitive stress injury. So from a semantic perspective I’d say that visiting a tanning bed in itself does not determine its ergonomic value. How efficiently and accurately you tan (that is how much skin surface is tanned) determines the ergonomic value. So if the stand up tanning bed let you get a better tan in less time, and therefore less exposure, then it is both ergonomic and healthier (relative to a standard bed). Note: I have not evaluated the stand up bed and use this statement for illustrative purposed only.
