Logitech MX Revolution Mouse: First Impressions

Thursday October 5, 2006
Logitech, one of the leaders in computer peripheral ergonomics, has released the MX Revolution Mouse. The MX Revolution does represent a revolution in mouse design that is not related to all the marketing hype. It is a new design, not just an updated model.

That is not saying that they threw out everything that worked before. A lot of the form factor and button placement that has become rather standard is still there. It supports a natural wrist position and should help prevent repetitive stress injuries. The new design is under the hood. It seems that the scroll wheel now has a transmission.

You can shift the scroll wheel between the familiar clicking scroll to a free spinning mode. In free spin mode the wheel will spin freely. This lets you scroll through thousands and thousands of lines with just the flick of a finger. There are a couple of other programmable buttons along with the document flip button that lets you flip through multiple documents in the same program with a thumb flick.

The recharging base is stylish and so is the mouse itself. The feel is comfortable. The software is easy to use. All in all it is a high quality mouse up to Logitech's usual standards.
