Excercise Treats Repetitive Stress

Thursday July 27, 2006
A new systematic review shows that exercise is better than ergonomics in treating chronic pain. The systematic review was conducted by Arianne Verhagen, Ph.D., a physical therapist and epidemiologist at the Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam. It was published in the current issue of The Cochrane Library and reported in the Insurance Journal.

And they are absolutely correct. You may notice that none of the treatment options for repetitive stress injuries reported on at this site include ergonomics. Ergonomics isn't a commodity or a pill, it is a science and a practice. But they are right, it does not cure anything.

Ergonomics is a preventative measure when it comes to repetitive stress injuries. It can keep you from developing one or keep you from worsening one during the healing process.

They are also right that exercise does help tremendously. It is harder to stress something when it is strong enough to take that stress. That is why exercise is number 9 on the 10 Things to Do if You've Been Diagnosed with a Repetitive Stress Injury. Now we have scientific evidence to back it up.
